Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo church

The Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta (15th century) is located within the village. Documented as a Collegiate Church since 1275, in the early 16th century, it was adorned with a precious panel by Nicolò Alunno, depicting the Assumption of Mary surrounded by glorifying angels. Originally, it had two side panels featuring the figures of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Sebastian, which are currently housed in the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome. Also interesting is the affresco made by Giovanni Antonio de' Sacchis, known as Pordenone, commissioned in 1516 by the widow of Bartolomeo d'Alviano, Pantasilea Baglioni. This affresco represents the noblewoman herself along with the Madonna and Saints. The Castle houses two museums within its walls that trace the history of Alviano through the centuries: the Bartolomeo d'Alviano and Umbrian Condottieri Documentation Center, and the Museum of Peasant Civilization "La Terra e lo Strumento" (The Land and the Tool).
